Ohio State dietitians assess how fad diets stack the odds against social media users

For Liz Weinandy, an Ohio State instructor of practice in medical dietetics, experimenting with fad diets is like getting hooked on slot machines in Las Vegas: enticing and flashy at first, but ultimately draining and destructive.

“All of these diets create euphoria to begin with, but they’re just going to cause disappointment in the end,” said Weinandy, also a registered dietician with the Wexner Medical Center.

In essence, Weinandy said a “fad diet” refers to any trendy eating plan that foll...

Lucy’s Little Library: Children’s classics with grown-up appeal

Lucy’s Little Library is a monthly book column that recommends three must-reads to Ohio State’s literature lovers.

Dear reader, don’t be fooled — “juvenile literature” isn’t always child’s play.

With the arrival of a new year, many people make the ambitious resolution to read more often. Still, a vast vortex of authors and titles can leave these aspiring bibliophiles feeling paralyzed rather than proactive.

In times of literary crisis, going back to the basics is always a stellar option. The...

Lucy’s Little Library is a monthly book column that recommends three must-reads to Ohio State’s literature lovers.

Dear reader, nothing stings sharper than an icy splash of reality.

As a fantasy devotee, I typically prefer my reading materials to be steeped in magic systems and mythical creatures. Even so, our world possesses just as much tension and curiosity as many of its fictional counterparts — and these three nonfiction narratives are intrigue incarnate.

Striking a chord: Men’s Glee Club members assess the enduring bond between ‘Carmen Ohio’ and Ohio State sports

Disclaimer: The Lantern’s “Best of OSU” polling was conducted via social media and should not be considered statistically representative of Ohio State’s extended student body.

Despite being one of Ohio State’s newest on-campus facilities, the Timashev Family Music Building — located at 1900 College Road N. — possesses an old soul.

Students stroll down bright hallways, humming or snapping as their footfalls produce a vaguely melodic sound. But it’s the lobby, replete with ample study space and...

“The Hours” by Michael Cunningham, “Elektra” by Jennifer Saint and “All’s Well” by Mona Awad

Lucy’s Little Library is a monthly book column that recommends three must-reads to Ohio State’s literature lovers.

Dear reader, it’s time to accept that not all retellings are created equal.

Breathing new life into old stories can be tricky, like tracing one’s finger along the edge of a knife. Even if the blade has dulled with time, it can — and maybe should — still leave a mark.

These three reimagin...
